ABOUT THE NEST SPACE
The D.P. Todd NEST program was created by Ms. Clancy, the school's resident Visual Arts teacher. Passionate about advocating for mental health and LGBTQ2IA+ youth, Ms. Clancy wanted to create a safe space for these marginalized students who have with severe anxiety, depression, or social-emotional struggles.
The NEST program celebrates neurodiversity (autism spectrum, adhd, ocd....) and for students to be their authentic, creative selves.
The NEST space is made to be a cozy environment with alternate and accessible seating and project areas, where students can feel comfortable and have a safe space to start their day. Greenery also fills the room to give a fresh, nurturing feel.
Students in the NEST program can come in and have breakfast when they arrive, and have a great start to their morning with check-ins and setting a good intention for their day.
The NEST space is also home to the Japanese 11/12 course, so the room has many interesting cultural props and decorations on the shelves and walls!
